Research

This magazine is a very popular one that's worldwide, and has been published in many different countries. This issue is from one of American magazines. It features the United states of America's president's wife, Michelle Obama. This magazine is very sophisticated, and is aimed at an audience, generally for older women. It has the typical conventions of a normal magazine, with the subtitles, title, main centre focus picture, etc, but the difference between this magazine and others in the market is that it's more classy and has less on the page to add to this effect. The colours are also quite bleak and simple, and makes you focus on the model in the middle, as she's in a bright dress. The woman, as we mentioned, is Michelle Obama, which shows to the reader that this magazine isn't just about fashion, as we know it is, but it delves into subjects that relate to the more high society. Politics is a very formal subject to touch upon, so this shows the Vogue mean business, and don't ponder on subjects that don't really matter. Instead of gossip, this magazine gives out information, as well as new looks.

This magazine is named Heat. This is also a very popular magazine that has been around for a while now. It talks about general gossip with celebrities, weird stories, and shocking real life events that people can spread around and tell other people. I believe this magazine is aimed at a wider audience than Vogue, such as 16+ young women. We can tell this magazine is less sophisticated and for the middle class sort by just looking at the front cover. The centre focus is of a man that featured in a real life experimental show, Big Brother. It's tradition for every issue, someone from the show whose just been evicted features on the front with shocking stories and revelations. The stories that feature on this cover are about crude subjects, mostly to do with sex and cheating. 'Sheep watched me lose my virginity.' Stories like these are there to shock and amuse the audience, whereas stories featured in Vogue are there to educate and interest in a different way. The layout also differs to the cover of Vogue. Everything on the page leaps out at you, the colours, the text, everything's there and you dont know where to look next. It's more bright, which attracts you to it straight away, but also shows that it needs to have this aspect, whereas Vogue's so popular, it can get away with any bleak colour scheme.

This is a video of how to make a magazine cover on youtube.com. I think i'll be using this to help me throughout making my own magazine cover on Photoshop.

This is a cover from an college magazine that I will be also creating when I have finished my research. The cover is really different from the above covers, as it has a more formal and has a different message to get accross. The audience for this magazine is a very specific target audience, and I believe it's for an older audience, say who go to university or study obviously at college, and who would like to eductate themselves with this magazine. The colour scheme is less bold and are more neautral then a usual trashy magazine such as Heat. This magazine cover for the college has less information crammed onto it, which shows that all the contents inside instead of outside. Most college magazines are like this, and just provide all the information you need in the actual magazine, not on the cover to try and attract you.

This college magazine cover is very different to the one from the one above. It's named College Basketball, and automatically we know this magazine is about sport, rather than eductation. The target audience for this I think could be college sports people, or coaches who are obviously interested in sport. Also, anyone who wants to know what's going on in the sport world at their college. I think the ideology for this magazine is to inform people about sports, which is obvious, because of the pictures and headings. The layout is rather different to the one above, as it has more headings splashed across the cover, which shows that the stories inside need to be attracted by the audience with coverlines to intise them. There are subheadings all over the page, with bright colours and a different mix of colours to attract the audience. I think this magazine for college students is more like a normal magazine then a formal college stereotypical one.
